Why your face goes red

Alcohol flush is not an allergy. It is an enzyme bottleneck. Here is what happens under the surface:

  1. 1. Alcohol turns into acetaldehyde

    When you drink, your liver converts alcohol into a toxic compound called acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde, not the alcohol itself, is what triggers the flush.

  2. 2. The ALDH2 enzyme is supposed to clear it

    Normally, an enzyme called ALDH2 quickly converts acetaldehyde into harmless acetate before you ever feel it.

  3. 3. The ALDH2*2 gene slows that down

How many do I take, and when?

Three capsules with a glass of water about thirty minutes before your first drink. Take them once, before the night starts, not with every drink. One bottle is 60 capsules, which is 20 servings, or about 20 nights out.

Do I take more during the night?

For most dinners or casual drinks, 3 capsules taken 30 minutes before your first drink is plenty. If you are out for a longer evening, like a wedding, you can take an additional 3 capsules a few hours later while drinking. Do not exceed 9 capsules in 24 hours, and remember that taking more capsules does not reduce intoxication.

Will it work for me?

If your flush is the ALDH2 kind, the red face and neck after a drink or two, Sunset is made for it, and most reviewers say it helped. A few say it did not, which is what the guarantee is for. If you get hives, wheezing or a racing heart from a sip, that is a different reaction and Sunset is not for you.
